Liverpool Transfer News: Reds Begin Talks Over a Move for Lyon Striker Gomis; Dynamo Kyiv's Milevskiy Also Being Considered

Liverpool have reportedly opened talks with French club Lyon over a move for their striker Bafetimbi Gomis.

Brendan Rodgers has made no bones about the fact that a striker is his No. 1 priority in the January transfer window, with the likes of Theo Walcott, Daniel Sturridge, Shane Long and Darren Bent already linked with a move to Anfield.

Now, Rodgers has reportedly zoned in on French international Gomis, who has been in good form for Lyon this season.

The Reds have also been linked with moves for Spanish strikers Roberto Soldado and Fernando Llorente, but with Liverpool not having too much of a budget to bring in new players, Gomis is seen as the slightly cheaper alternative, as Rodgers looks to decrease the burden on Luis Suarez.

According to French magazine Le 10 Sport, Liverpool have started negotiations with Lyon over a deal for the 27-year-old striker after watching him score a brilliant hat-trick for Lyon in midweek.

The English Premier League club are confident an agreement can be made when the window reopens in January.

Gomis' current contract runs until 2014, and Liverpool could get the striker for around £7 million ($11.2 million).

Meanwhile, Liverpool have also been linked with a move for another striker who will not burn the pockets when it comes to a transfer fee in Artem Milevskiy.

The Ukrainian international has been made available for a transfer by Dynamov Kyiv after failing to agree on terms for a new contract, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

Liverpool are long-term admirers of the 27-year-old, and, according to Talksport, could be set to revive their interest in the forward, who has won 50 caps for Ukraine already. Milevskiy is reportedly available for as little as £1.6 million ($2.6 million).
