NFL Results: Jets Win, Bench Sanchez, McElroy Defeats Cardinals

Dec 02, 2012 04:01 PM EST

The New York Jets bounced back and beat the Arizona Cardinals 7-6 after their rookie Greg McElroy came in and won the game.

Mark Sanchez had a Drew Brees Week 13-like performance throwing for just 92 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions. He didn't get to throw five interceptions because Rex Ryan had enough.

McElroy came in and threw a touchdown in his first drive and gave the Jets their first lead and points of the game after a TD pass to Jeff Cumberland. He finished the game 5/7 with 29 yards and a TD.

After the touchdown, McElroy went over to the stands to take back the football which had ended up in the stands.

McElroy got the ball back and the Jets took control.

This was a sloppy game pretty much highlighted by the entry of the rookie quarterback out of Alabama. He was a 7th round pick and fifth in that round.

For the Cardinals it became their eighth straight loss, moving them further back out of the NFC West and any hopes of making a playoff run instantaneously died with the loss tonight.

The Cardinals played great defense as they continuously made the Jets look bad and stepped up big every time Sanchez and the Jets needed a play.

However, their offensive woes really overshadowed their defensive dominance. The Cardinals went 0-15 on third down opportunities. Shonn Greene rushed for 104 yards in the win and took fell down after the 2-minute warning and the Jets then let the clock wind down.

Once Sanchez left, the Jets went to the running game and the Cardinals could not find an answer.
