Johnny Manziel Rumors: Cleveland Browns to Release QB? Carson Wentz, Jared Goff, Paxton Lynch Targets with Josh McCown Starter?

Feb 01, 2016 09:16 AM EST

Just a week ago Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam told the media that the team's relationship with Johnny Manziel was fixable. Haslam defended the quarterback and his issues saying the Browns would consider all things when it came to keeping or releasing the quarterback. Well, Manziel might have just push that relationship to the brink after yet another run-in with the police following a domestic dispute.

According to ESPN.com, police were called to investigate an incident between Manziel and his girlfriend. After the 23-year-old woman told police she was concerned about Manziel's whereabouts, helicopters were deployed to try and find him. Fort Worth police determined Manziel was not in danger, but they have yet to determine whether or not there were any criminal offenses that occurred with the issue.

This is not the first time Manziel was questioned by police for a domestic incident. It is also not the first time he has had an off-the-field issue while with the Cleveland Browns. While the details of the outcome of this most recent issues have yet to become fully known, it does not paint the quarterback in the best picture and is another knock to his resume with the Browns. With head coach Hue Jackson reportedly not a fan of the quarterback, is this what pushes Cleveland to release Manziel?

The Browns have not said much on the future of Manziel. Jackson told the media that he has not spoken with Manziel, but that the Browns needed a quarterback that could carry the franchise. Haslam remained hopeful that Manziel could find his place in Cleveland and said that the team was not rushing a decision.

"We talked to Johnny before he left (for the offseason)," Haslam said, via the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I know a big deal was made that Hue hasn't called Johnny yet. Well, we've got 53 players on the active (roster) and 10 more, and there were a couple of other real prominent players he just talked to in the last day or two. So I'm sure he'll get around to talking to him. I think Johnny made progress on the field last year. I think that's undeniable. We have a certain expectation for our players and that includes Johnny, and he's got to live up to those expectations."

According to ESPN.com, the Browns took interest in Carson Wentz during Senior Bowl practices like many teams did. With the No.2 pick in the NFL Draft, the Browns can select just about any quarterback they want. Jared Goff and Paxton Lynch are scouted as top options as well. Connor Cook, Dak Prescott and Jake Coker follow. The Browns have options with Josh McCown still on the roster and will explore every avenue when it comes to the futures of Manziel and the position.
