Seattle Seahawks Rumors: Russell Okung Leaving In Free Agency This Offseason?

Jan 27, 2016 04:28 PM EST

The Seattle Seahawks will likely see their starting left tackle, Russell Okung, leave for free agency.

Okung who is only 28 has been one of the main protectors of Russell Wilson and it is pretty shocking to see the Seahawks so cavalier about letting Okung walk considering Seattle's protection issues already. After letting Max Unger go in the now infamous Jimmy Graham trade the Seahawks were solidly worse at running and passing the ball for most of the season. With Okung leaving it just adds another need to a team that is seeing its starters walk in free agency.

The Seahawks also made it deep into the playoffs so they will be drafting in the 20's which means all the top prospects along the offensive line will most likely be gone. Okung has been injured since the Seahawks playoff loss to the Carolina Panthers and will have surgery to have his dislocated shoulder repaired. His return date is in in June so Okung should be ready by training camp.

Okung will be under contract with the Seahawks until March so any teams caught talking to him will be charged with tampering. This move by Okung was a smart one because if he is indeed healthy by June teams should be lining up to utilize his services.
