NBA News and Notes: Matt Barnes Suspended Two Games For Derek Fisher Altercation

Dec 28, 2015 04:13 PM EST

The NBA has announced that they will suspend Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes for 2 games after he "threatened" and engaged in a "physical altercation" with New York Knicks head coach, Derek Fisher in October.

The two former Los Angeles Lakers teammates (2010-2012) have been rumored to have a conflict with one another after a minor incident between the two occurred in the month of October. The incident itself took place at Barnes estranged wife (Gloria Govan's) Redondo Beach California home.

Barnes claims he went to the house after receiving text messages and facetime calls from his 6 year old twin sons who stated that they were uncomfortable and that "mommy's friend Derek is here".

Barnes only lived 15 minutes away so he quickly drove to the house and confronted Fisher. The police were called however no charges were filed, leaving the NBA to investigate the situation internally.

The suspension begins on Tuesday night as the Grizzlies play the Miami Heat at home. Barnes will also miss an away game versus the Utah Jazz on Saturday. As of right now Derek Fisher is unlikely to face any sort of punishment from the league since they do not view him as the instigator of the altercation.
