West Ham striker Andy Carroll will be desperate to get off the mark against Stoke City in Monday's English Premier League game."

West Ham will look to carry their momentum and climb above Everton into fifth place when they host Stoke City in the Monday night game of the English Premier League.

A tough physical encounter can be expected between two teams that employ direct styles, but are enjoying different fortunes currently.

West Ham are in seventh, a point behind sixth-placed Arsenal and two points adrift of Everton, while Stoke are struggling in 14th on 12 points, just three points ahead of third bottom Aston Villa.

West Ham will be buoyed by the impressive 1-0 win over Newcastle, where former Newcastle man Kvein Nolan struck the winner in a 1-0 win. "We're happy with our own performances and results," Allardyce told reporters. "The lads are just trying to make sure we continue where we left off against Newcastle and try to beat Stoke City on Monday and continue to load up the points as quick as we possibly can.

"The confidence is good and I think the only problem we've got at the moment is injuries. I think overcoming these injuries and continuing to get results is going to be our biggest problem.

"What other people are saying, the players don't seem to be too interested in. We are getting some good publicity and rightly so because of the position we're in being a newly-promoted side into the Barclays Premier League."

While West Ham might be on a good run, the fact that Andy Carroll is yet to find the target, despite some good performances, is a matter of concern, although Allardyce is confident his striker will find the back of the net soon.

"We all want, particularly Andy himself, our centre forward to score goals, like any forward that plays the game off football," the West Ham manager said. "I'm convinced that he will put the ball into the net and that will hopefully start him on a good run.

"At the moment, his partnership with Kevin Nolan is one of the key elements in us continuing to do well. Our attacking play has been good because we can play off two players who are playing very well at the moment. That gives us more opportunities to go and attack the oppositon on a regular basis."

Stoke manager Tony Pulis is determined to improve his side's away form, with the Potters picking up just three points on their travels all season, and not having registered a victory away from home since the beginning of the year.

"Our away performances have been very good and we have created lots of chances to win games of football, but just haven't got over the line," he said. "It will happen though, I am convinced of that. As long as the players keep believing and working as hard as they have been doing, we'll be fine.

"We've actually played better away from home at times than we have done at home. "For some reason, we just can't seem to turn the performances into victories. If you look back, Reading got a penalty in the 93rd minute to equalise, while at Wigan the keeper makes an outstanding save to deny us a late winner.

"We were beaten by a late goal at Chelsea, we played better than we have ever done at Manchester United and we got a great point at Liverpool. Then in the last away game, we missed chances at Norwich which would have earned us at least a draw."

In team news, defender James Collins could return for West Ham, while Guy Demel is also pushing for a place in the starting XI. Midfielder Mathew Taylor has returned to training, but Jack Collison and Ricardo Vaz Te are long-term absentees.

Glen Whelan, Jonathan Walters and Charlie Adam picked up knocks in the past week, but are expected to be named in the squad, but Dean Whitehead is out through suspension, while Michael Owen is still struggling with a hamstring problem.
