The Cleveland Cavaliers finally get their first taste of what it is like to have J.R. Smith on your roster.

The former New York Knick was apparently out late when he ran into a group of high school students who by all accounts had some unflattering things to say about his trade to the Cavaliers. This is when things got out of hand as Smith supposedly placed his hands on the high school student and put his hands around his neck. The students reportedly filmed Smith walking away from the altercation however no video has yet to be released.

This all went down, not at a club or raunchy bar but outside of Artichoke Basille's Pizza on West 17th street and 10th avenue. Even if the high school kids were egging Smith on it is this type of decision making that had the Knicks wary of signing him to a long term deal.

Smith's affinity with being out late in the city that never sleeps made for a bad combination of inconsistent play and persistent headlines about how Smith stayed out all night thus resulting in disastrous  plays and an overall lack of focus. Smith may be in Cleveland now  but it is clear that his troubles still stem from his nights out in NYC.
