James Harden #13 of the Houston Rockets celebrates with head coach Kevin McHale after they defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 113 to 100 during Game Seven of the Western Conference Semifinals at the Toyota Center for the 2015 NBA Playoffs on May 17, 2015 in Houston, Texas. "

The Houston Rockets have fired Kevin McHale who brought them to the Western Conference finals for the first time in 18 years.

General manager Daryl Morey and owner Leslie Alexander decided to give McHale the axe after a tough start to the season. The Rockets named assistant J. B. Bickerstaff as the interim head coach. The team lost to the Golden State Warriors last season in the playoffs making the need to win this season much more urgent. But a simple coaching change will not fix the Rockets problems.

The Rockets have placed the future in the hands of James Harden, Dwight Howard and a slew of role players.... that is not enough to even compete against any of the NBA super powers. The Rockets have been better than 72 percent of NBA teams, but they cannot seem to be quite as domineering as a team like the Thunder or the Cavaliers.

There are only a select few NBA players who deserve max contracts and typically those players can close out a game, Harden has yet to prove himself as someone who can dominate a game on his own. The Rockets need another superstar who can dominate the offense, and with Durant headed to free agency in 2016 it is not wonder why the Rockets are the front runners for his services.
