The Georgetown Hoyas and Maryland Terrapins are set to play on the NCAA college basketball schedule on Tuesday night and the game from the XFINITY Center College Park for the inaugural Gavitt Tipoff. The game starts at 9 pm ET on ESPN2 and the WatchESON website and has the Terrapins coming in as the number three team in the nation and a hot pick to make a title run this season.
Maryland comes in after winning their first game of the season against Mount St. Mary's and now the team will take on a local rival in Georgetown. The teams have not played at each other's home court in quite some time and this will start off a series between the two after playing neutral site games over the years. The teams are playing a home and home series for the first time in decades and the Hoyas come in looking to rebound from a loss.
Georgetown lost to Radford in double overtime to start the season and now the team has a tough test with the Terrapins, who are considered to be one of the favorites in the Big Ten. Maryland is coming in with their best team in a number of years and they come in after winning over Mount Saint Mary's with an 80-56 victory. Maryland guard Melo Trimble said the game is going to be exciting and that the team is looking forward to matching up with Georgetown.
The Terrapins come into the game at 1-0 and this will be the most notable opponent for the team until December when they match up with North Carolina. The team has Rider coming up next before Illinois State and the team will also play against Cleveland State before the matchup with UNC. The team has St. Francis after that and then the team has UConn in another battle with ranked teams. The schedule is fairly easy for the first stretch of the season and the team has Maryland- Eastern Shore, Princeton and Marshall before opening up the Big Ten conference schedule.
Maryland comes into the season as the heavy favorites in the conference and they open with Penn State, Northwestern and Rutgers before playing against Wisconsin. The team also has Michigan and Ohio State in back to back games before playing Northwestern again. Michigan comes into the season ranked and so does Michigan State, who the team will play after the Wildcats. Purdue also comes into the season ranked in the conference along with Indiana.
Georgetown comes into the game after the loss to Radford and they next have Wisconsin on the schedule after playing against Maryland. The team has Syracuse later in December and they will open conference play later on with DePaul, Marquette and Creighton before playing against St. John's and Villanova.
