The New York Rangers have extended their ridiculous winning streak by defeating the St. Louis Blues 6-3.
The Rangers are currently in the midst of their best 16 game start in franchise history and it does not look like things will slow down for New York. For the Blues this is the only loss on their four game road trip as they fall to 16-11.
The Rangers began the night with Derrick Brassard scoring the 1st goal of the game early in the first period. The second was provided by Mats Zuccarello who deked a defender cleanly and put in the back of the net. Zuccarello's goal was one of the main highlights of the game as he has enjoyed an excellent season so far.
The 3rd goal was scored by Kevin Hayes thanks to Viktor Stalberg and Oscar Lindberg giving the Rangers a dominating 3-0 lead in the 1st period however just as the period came to a close Dimitrij Jaskin scored the Blues first goal of the night. Early in the 2nd period the Blues rode that momentum as Vladimir Taransenko broke away from Stalberg and found the back of the net bringing the game closer than the Rangers would have liked.
The Rangers bounced back with a JT Miller slap shot goal from the point in the middle of the 2nd period to keep some distance between them and the Blues. The persistent Blues hung around until late in the game scoring once more as Troy Brouwer scored his team's final goal in the waning minutes of the 2nd period making it a 4-3 game.
Ryan McDonagh helped the Rangers by scoring one of the biggest goals of the night on a Rangers power play. This kept the Blues at a distance and forced them to play more aggressively than they seemed to be comfortable with. The final nail in the coffin came from Dan Girardi who scored on an empty net goal. The Rangers are looking to be in mid-season form as they improve to 12-2-2.
