The Kansas City Royals are rolling. The team has entered the American League Championship Series and immediately got two wins at home which could be critical as the series goes on. Currently facing the Toronto Blue Jays, the Royals must now try and take their success on the road if they want to see the World Series again. Johnny Cueto takes the mound to try and make it happen.
If the Blue Jays are worried after losing the first two games in the ALCS, they certainly are not showing it. According to ESPN.com, players spent their off day getting lose while outfielder Ben Revere told the media this is exactly where the team wants to be as Rogers Centre is expected to be backed to the gills with the Blue Jays needing a win big time. The biggest issue for the Blue Jays right now is their lack of the long ball. The team has been living and dying off the home run. That is how they beat the Yankees in the regular season. However, Jose Bautista's dramatic home run in the ALDS has been one of the only ones hit by the team.
The Royals will put Cueto on the mound to face the Blue Jays in order to ice the series. The pitcher has looked good in the postseason so far. The move to acquire Cueto at the trade deadline is proving to be a major payoff for the Royals so far this postseason. He has given up two runs against Houston and has good success against the Blue Jays in his career. He has allowed just two home runs with Troy Tulowitzki and Edwin Encarnacion the only players on the roster having hit well against the pitcher.
Toronto will counter with 24-year-old Marcus Stroman. The young pitcher has been a nice success story for Toronto after he tore ligaments in his left knee back in March only to come back and go 4-0 with a 1.67 ERA from the end of July to August. That improvement has been a big pick up for the Blue Jays as he needs to have a solid performance in Game 3 if the Toronto is going to stay in this series.
