The New York Yankees might not want to make trades, but their current stretch of the season might mean they have to. Currently sitting behind the Toronto Blue Jays for the American League East lead, the Yankees are struggling on the mound and on the plate at the wrong time of the season. With starting pitching becoming an issue and certain players remaining in a slump on offense, there are waiver options for the Yankees to take a look at.

Jose Reyes would not mind a return to the Big Apple. The short stop is currently sitting with the Colorado Rockies and is not happy in Denver. According to the Denver Post, Reyes was a trade from the team. He has cleared waivers and is available for the taking, but his contract makes it a difficult move. The short stop is 32 and is owed at least $48 million through 2017. He is hoping that the waiver deadline brings a move elsewhere in the league.

"You come from a ballclub that was competing for a spot in the playoffs. And you come to a club in last place. You think about that," Reyes said, via the Denver Post. "I'm at the point in my career that I want to win. I say it over and over. I want to win. I don't want to spend the rest of my career on a last-place team. That's not the kind of player I feel like I am."

The issue is that the feeling is not mutual for the Yankees. General manager Brian Cashman has made it clear that he is not looking to bring on heavy contracts just to make a move at the waiver deadline. With Stephen Drew and Brendan Ryan struggling, many would say the Yankees have to make a move. However, Cashman is staying put and will likely adjust the roster with September callups.

Pitching is also an issue for the Yankees. CC Sabathia is headed for the disabled list. Michael Pineda and Ivan Nova struggled in their last two starts. According to Andrew Marchand of ESPN, the Yankees do not want to add a pitcher, but might not have a choice. James Shields and Ian Kennedy are the best available. According to FOX Sports, the San Diego Padres are desperate to sell and could aim low on a trade deal with interest not coming their way.
