NFL News and Suspension Rumors: Tampa Bay Buccaneers DT Akeem Spence Suspended One Game For Violating League Policy

Aug 17, 2015 02:52 PM EDT

Tampa Bay Buccaneer's defensive tackle, Akeem Spence has been suspended for one game.

The league has charged Spence for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy for a 2014 marijuana arrest. Spence was arrested in 2014 for possession of Marijuana in Alabama however has not been practicing at training camp due to back surgery he had in July.

The charges were dropped after Spence completed a pre-trial diversion program ordered by the court. With Gerald McCoy leading the defensive tackle position there is no need to panic Buc's fans.

The Buccaneers also added Henry Melton and Tony McDaniel in free agency to give them one of the deepest defensive tackle positions in football. Spence was a fourth round pick in the 2013 NFL draft. He has played in all 32 games so far in his career with the Buccaneers and has only started in 19 of them.

The junior pass rusher is entering his third season and has managed to tally 66 tackles and 4 sacks in his career with the Buccaneers. Spence will find playing time hard to come by now that the Buccaneers are so stacked at defensive tackle. His role will most likely involve spelling McCoy and McDaniel when he returns.
