Dallas Cowboys Camp News and Rumors: Can Gus Johnson Make Team Behind Darren McFadden, Lance Dunbar On Depth Chart?

Aug 10, 2015 02:58 PM EDT

The Dallas Cowboys may have found a diamond in the rough. Running back Gus Johnson who was just brought in as a camp body or so most people assumed has been impressing Cowboy's fans as well as coaches with his speed and strength.

With Darren McFadden out Johnson has had a ton of time to make the Cowboys forget about the often injured running back. With McFadden returning in around a week it will be interesting just how much ground Johnson can gain on the former Oakland Raider running back. Johnson and Lache Seastrunk handled all of the Cowboy's goal line touches during Saturdays red zone drill which is pretty telling.

Randle was on the sidelines getting some rest after receiving the reps with the starters. It is intriguing to think of Randle as more of a speed back coming off the field in goal line situations and being replaced by the larger Johnson as a power back.

Johnson also broke off a couple of large runs throughout the week in practice which had fans and coaches wondering who is this guy. Johnson looks like the Cowboys most complete back so it would not surprise me if he made the practice squad however Johnson is running like he is destined for more. If McFadden were to remain out for longer than the Cowboy's anticipated I can see his role being reduced, as it stands they are looking at Randle and Dunbar as the primary guys while McFadden is injured.

If Johnson suddenly goes off in preseason he could have a shot at McFadden or even Dunbar's job.
