NFL Training Camp: Brandon Carr Suffers Serious Hand Injury At Cornerback

Aug 10, 2015 09:20 AM EDT

Dallas Cowboys starting cornerback Brandon Carr will miss some time due to a broken bone in his right hand. Carr was injured when playing in press coverage during practice earlier in the week.

Carr practiced Saturday with his hand heavily bandaged however is scheduled to have surgery in Dallas on Monday. This injury should not keep Carr out for the regular season opener against the New York Giants. Carr is scheduled to be out for the first two preseason games however his recovery time can vary. Cowboy's head coach Jason Garrett stated

"He's going to be out for a little bit here, we don't think it's serious. It's a similar injury to what DeMarco Murray had last year when he played in the game, four or five days later."

The Cowboys are seemingly thin at cornerback however the recent play of Morris Claiborne and Tyler Patmon suggest otherwise. Patmon has been buried in the depth chart but has been outstanding in camp and Claiborne is coming off a torn patellar injury that ended his season last year. Since camp started he has been revitalized and has made the most of his opportunities. The Cowboy's first round pick Byron Jones has also shown that not only is he a quick study but he is an incredibly versatile defensive back.
