The NY Yankees have placed Dustin Ackley on the DL after his trade from the Seattle Mariners after the outfielder suffered a herniated disk and this comes after the team has had to put Michael Pineda on the disabled list and he will be out for August following a forearm issue, meaning Luis Severino could be sticking around. But even with all that, the Yankees scored 13 runs on Tuesday night and won over the Red Sox.

The Yankees have played above expectations this season and if things keep pace, the team will be the likely winner of the American League East. The Yankees have dealt with a number of injuries in the rotation and the team has been able to stay ahead and now Ackley will also be out for a stretch. According to Hardball Talk, general manager Brian Cashman said that Ackley will be placed on the 15-day disabled list and added that the he did not have any "issues" with Mariners regarding the recent deal for the outfielder.

The Yankees picked up the former number two overall pick in the draft at the trade deadline for Ramon Flores and Jose Ramirez and now he will be on the DL for the Yankees. Cashman said that the Ackley injury was "bad timing" and that Ackley could be out for a "minimum of 20-to-30 days" while dealing with the back issue. The Yankees made a move and brought up reliever Caleb Cotham to take the place of Ackley on the roster.

The Yankees designated Garrett Jones for assignment after the Ackley move and Cashman also said that that Mason Williams will undergo shoulder surgery. The Yankees also will be without Pineda for the next month, as Cashman said that the pitcher will be out of action until at least September. Pineda has had arm issues i the past and he comes in after putting up a 3.97 ERA for the Yankees this season. Pineda is 9-7 this season and now Luis Severino could end up getting an extended look.

Severino is set to make his debut on Wednesday in the MLB for the Yankees against the Boston Red Sox and he has been hyped up as one of the better Yankee prospects in the system. Severino comes in after going 7-0 in Triple-A and he put up 50 strikeouts in 61 innings while posting a 1.90 ERA. Severino also pitched well in eight starts at Trenton in Double-A and now the 21-year-old pitcher could stay as the back end option in the rotation.

The Yankees now have a 5.5 game lead over the Blue Jays and the teams are set to play soon and that could be a huge battle. The team has scored 90 runs over the past stretch of games and the Yankees have been looking strong offensively and the pitching has done enough to win games and get to the bullpen. The team has been great at home and they have 60 wins already this season and look like the division champs.
