Tre Mason #27 of the St. Louis Rams celebrates after scoring a touchdown against the Oakland Raiders in the first quarter at the Edward Jones Dome on November 30, 2014 in St. Louis, Missouri. "

Tre Mason is going to be seeing a lot of action early this season. Mason is projected to be the starter for the Rams right out of the gate. This is being done so the Rams can ease Todd Gurley back into action without putting too much stress on his knee. The Rams are going to increase Gurley's workload if his ACL is recovered to a point where they are comfortable.

They also want Gurley in football shape so his stamina will be something they take a close look at. If Gurley shows all signs of a full recovery then he could be used late into the season as the Ram's primary back. The Rams will be hoping that Mason can lead the charge for the first half of the season which is not necessarily asking a lot from their former third round pick.

Mason was supposed to rejuvenate the Ram's rushing attack but the offensive line was not up to the challenge, he did manage to rack up 765 yards and 4 touchdowns after only starting in nine games and playing in twelve. Mason did have 16 receptions which could be a sign to how the Rams would use him when Gurley comes back.
