The Saints have placed several key starters on their PUP list. Star safety Jairus Byrd who suffered a season ending knee injury last season, defensive tackle Glenn Foster and star wide receiver Marques Colston both of whom were put on the PUP list for undisclosed reasons.

Colston at 32 is a veteran like Brees so limiting his practice reps only comes naturally; there is the obvious indication that Colston may be more prone to injury than he normally is. The Saints need all three of these players considering how many they have lost in recent memory.

Byrd was brought in during free agency two seasons ago and has been nothing but a tremendous bust. He has earned the most guaranteed money and has only been on the field for four games. Previously Byrd was a standout on the Bills and managed to stay fairly healthy.

Now this might still be a precautionary measure but coming back from a torn lateral meniscus ligament is no easy task. Colston is by no means replaceable but the Saints do have young wide receivers waiting in the wings. Brandin Cooks should lead the offense with help from Josh Morgan and Nick Toon, it would not surprise me at all this season if the Saints ditched the aerial attack for a more steady ground based game plan.
