The San Francisco Giants won Game 5 of the NLDS after defeating the Cincinnati Reds 6-4, advancing to the NLCS.

All the Giants needed was a big inning and one big hit from the NL batting champion, Buster Posey.

Posey handled Mat Latos and pounced on a delivery in his wheelhouse for a game changing grand slam in the fifth, giving the Giants a 6-0 lead.

The home run got Latos removed from the game after the right-handed youngster cruised through the first four innings.

The Giants started the fifth inning with a base hit by Gregor Blanco. Brandon Crawford then followed with a triple, giving the Giants a 1-0 lead.

Angel Pagan then hit a chopper right at Zack Cozart as the Reds were playing the infield in. Cozart could not handle and committed an error which allowed Crawford to score.

Marco Scutaro and Pablo Sandoval reached on after a walk and a single. Posey then homered to left and everybody on the Reds knew it was out.

Latos was removed after 4.1 innings. He allowed five earned runs on seven hits and a walk. Latos struckout four.

Matt Cain pitched well, but was roughed up a bit. He went 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on six hits, two walks and struckout five.

The Giants defense came through big time in the bottom of the Reds' 8th. Crawford made a diving catch at short and then Pagan dove, saving a run and ending a potential rally.

Sergio Romo ran into some trouble in the bottom of the 9th as he gave up a run and had runners on 1st and 2nd with Jay Bruce at bat.

After an epic battle, Romo got Bruce to popout to left field and struck out Scott Rolen for the save.

The Giants await an opponent between the Washington Nationals or the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals.

The Cardinals lead the series 2-1 and have a chance to put it away today.
