Chelsea Transfer News: Lucas Piazon Aiming for Bigger Things This Season as Youngster Continues Progress

The current Chelsea squad is filled with bright young players all tipped to have great careers ahead of them as the Blues bring on their new revolution to the fore.

Focus on youth - where Chelsea brought in the likes of Eden Hazard, Victor Moses, Marko Marin, Cesar Azpilicueta and Oscar - this year has paid rich dividends so far, with the Blues topping the English Premier League table by four points, having dropped just two points from seven games.

While the likes of Hazard and Oscar, deservedly, have been taking the plaudits, another youngster is slowly starting to get his recognition in the Chelsea line-up, having made his first-team debut recently in the League Cup.

Lucas Piazon is seen by many as one of the brightest stars of the future, with the 18-year-old looking very much at home playing with his more illustrious Chelsea teammates in their 6-0 demolition of Wolves.

"You don't need to be nervous, nor too excited when you are playing in the first team," Piazon told the club's official website. "You need to be calm because if you are here it is because you can play. You just need to do your job and play your game.

"The (League Cup) match was good, the team played very well and the start was very important. In 20 minutes we were 3-0 up and it was good for the players who were not playing so often to get minutes."

Piazon has taken his time to earn a place in the Chelsea first team, after signing from Sao Paulo in the summer of 2011. The forward scored four goals for the reserve team last year in 10 appearances, including two wonderful strikes against Manchester United and Arsenal. Piazon also helped Chelsea to the FA Youth Cup, where he scored three goals, and those performances earned him the Chelsea young player of the year award.

"When I arrived I started in the reserve squad and I was playing so many games in the youth team to get adapted to English football, and I think this was very important for me," Piazon continued. "Now I have been playing with the first team, the most important moment in my career, so the youth team and the reserves helped me a lot to be where I am now.

"In (the preseason tour of) America I could score a goal which was nice and this preseason is important for the youngsters to get a chance to play, and for Chelsea to be able to give us a chance. I really enjoyed the tour and it was a great experience in my life."

Like any other player in Brazil, Piazon started at a young age, playing the sport whenever and wherever he could. The teenager also paid tribute to futsal, saying the shorter version of the game had helped hone his skills to a great extent.

"Every boy in Brazil started in futsal -- me, Oscar, David Luiz, Ramires, Neymar, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Robinho - everyone," Piazon added.

"When we move to the big pitch it is hard because we do the first touch like this so we get a bit confused, but now I never do this anymore, just the normal way. I still use some of the futsal techniques a bit and it is good because futsal is in a small space and that helps you when play football and there are a lot of players in a small space."

The Brazilian admitted the presence of his compatriots in the Chelsea team had helped him to acclimatize much quicker. "When I came there were three Brazilians already here and when Oscar came there were three as well and I think it was good for him, how it was for me," he said.

"It helps you to adapt and to get closer to the people in the club and that is really important. We are always together, in each other's houses, in David's house, in Rami's house, and it is good to be like this."

Piazon is your typical modern-day winger, easy on the ball, with loads of ability and vision. "I think I can play right wing, left wing or no. 10, or as a last option striker as well.

"I think my best position is left wing but if I need to play any of the others then that is no problem."
