The MLB All-Star game saw the American League win over the National League in Cincinnati on Tuesday night, with Mike Trout leading the way for the 6-3 victory for the AL and Trout ended up winning his second straight MVP award in the summer classic.
Trout hit a leadoff home run against Zack Greinke and he ended up getting four at-bats in the game, going 1-for-3 with the homer, a walk and two runs. Trout won his second All-Star game before his 24th birthday and according to Hardball Talk, Trout is the first player to have four at-bats in the All-Star game since Jose Reyes did it back in 2007. The AL won the game behind some power, as Trout and Brian Dozier had home runs, while Manny Machado had a double that scored Brock Holt.
There were some impressive pitching performances between the scoring plays in the game for both sides, as the AL had strong action from Felix Hernandez, David Price, Zach Britton, Dellin Betances and Wade Davis. The NL saw Jacob DeGrom strike out the side in his inning of work in just 10 pitches and Aroldis Chapman lit up his hometown crowd with a bevy of 100-mph pitches.
The National League could not keep up and that means the AL will have home field advantage in the World Series this year once again. Trout is the first player to win back to back MVP awards in the All-Star game and according to ESPN.com he is the first player in over 35 years to lead off the game with a home run.
