MLB Playoff Bracket 2012: Check Out Potential and Established Postseason Matchups

Oct 04, 2012 11:22 AM EDT

The regular season will give way to the playoffs as the MLB will have its first ever Wild Card Game. Here we bring you all the postseason matchups and dates of the Division Series for both leagues.

Kicking off the postseason are the Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday, October 7 at 5 p.m.

The winner of this game will have to face the Washington Nationals who finished with the best record in the Major Leagues this season at 98-64.

The winner of the Wild Card Game will host the Nationals for the first two games of the series. This was Bud Selig's brilliant way of making up for the Wild Card teams using their aces in the one-game playoff.

The Nationals will then play three straight games at home.

The San Francisco Giants will play the Cincinnati Reds in the NLDS. That matchup will take place on Saturday, October 6 at 9:30 p.m. ET.

The same goes for the American League Diivision Series.

The Oakland Athletics will face the Detroit Tigers. The first game is laid out with the time of the first game. The New York Yankees, however, have to wait until the Baltimore Orioles and the Texas Rangers play their Wild Card Game on Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Here is a chart that should clearly breakdown the matches. Unfortunately, because the Nationals and the Yankees do not know who they will face, the time of their LDS games are not scheduled.
