Daryl Morey told the media via the Houston Chronicle that he intends to try and re-sign the free agents of the Rockets before going out and chasing other people. The issue is that other teams have their eyes on the team's free agents and could beat Houston to a contract. With interest growing in Patrick Beverley, the point guard is getting a lot of offers thrown his way and the Rockets might not be able to match them.

According to Sean Deveney of Sporting News, the New York Knicks were one of the first teams to make contact with Beverley at the start of free agency. The point guard is a restricted free agent with the Rockets this season so they do have the right to match any offer that comes to Beverley, but the question is will they deem it worth it as the team chases other players.

Beverley has been getting plenty of interest on the market as the Knicks are not the only team to call about an offer. According to Alex Kennedy of NBA Insiders, Chandler Parsons is recruiting the point guard to Dallas while the Cleveland Cavaliers are also an option. Meanwhile the Rockets must decide if they would rather retain Beverley or start from scratch at the position.

According to the Houston Chronicle, a trade for a point guard could be the route the Rockets take. This likely all depends on what happens with LaMarcus Aldridge. According to Marc Stein of ESPN, the Rockets have a meeting with the power forward along with about six other teams in the league. James Harden is expected to be present at the meeting to recruit the free agent. If the Rockets were to win the Aldridge sweepstakes, they would likely be forced to trade Trevor Ariza and potentially someone like Terrence Jones in a deal. That would free up salary cap space along with possibly getting the Rockets a point guard.

NBA sources have noted that everyone from Eric Bledsoe and Ty Lawson to Brandon Jennings and Ricky Rubio could be available for trades depending on how the market shapes up. A package of Ariza and Jones is extremely appealing for any team looking for help while it would also get the Rockets something good in return. Houston would have no choice but to make trades if they intend on signing Aldridge.
