The Green Bay Packers are coming into OTA workouts with rookies looking to make an impact, as players like Ty Montgomery, Damarious Randall and Brett Hundley are getting the chance to compete and this season Montgomery could be in line to take over kick returns from Randall Cobb, while Hundley is battling with Scott Tolzien to be the backup for Aaron Rodgers.

The Packers signed back Randall Cobb this offseason and with him being such a big part of the offense, the team does not want him exposed in kick returns anymore. According to the Journal Sentinel, that is one reason why Montgomery was drafted, as head coach Mike McCarthy said that he is a skilled returner and can be used as a weapon in Green Bay. Montgomery is a smart player coming out of Stanford and he averaged over 27 yards per kickoff return while playing for the Cardinal.

Cobb is an electric player, but after dealing with a leg injury in the past and moving up the depth chart for the Packers, McCarthy wants to keep him out of harm's way. Montgomery should be able to get a leg up that way, as the Packers have Cobb and Jordy Nelson along with Davante Adams, Jared Abbrederis and Jeff Janis. Montgomery could be a factor on offense this season, but his first chance to contribute will be on special teams.

Cobb had over 100 catches last season and Nelson is locked in at number two on the depth chart and now Montgomery will get a chance to prove himself in offseason workouts. Over the last two seasons Montgomery has had 122 catches for over 1600 yards and during his college career he averaged 12 yards per catch. Montgomery could be a great slot option for Rodgers and he can step up if Cobb or Nelson go down with injuries.

Hundley was considered a mid-round pick and a QB project and now the Packers could look at Hundley as a future option as a legit backup for Rodgers for years to come Tolzien has been fine and should stick with the team, but Hundley gives the team some potential behind Rodgers. Many draft scouts say he needs years to develop anyway and that could make him a project for McCarthy. The team has Tolzien as the backup, but Hundley could develop into the backup and could be trade bait depending on how things go in a couple years.

Rodgers has been banged up before and two years ago he missed a bunch of games and adding as player like Hundley could be interesting for the Packers if that happens again. Montgomery had only 15 touchdowns in four years, but that was more due to the way Stanford runs the ball so much. Davante Adams is in as the third receiver, but Montgomery could push him during the summer and that adds another main weapon for Aaron Rodgers.
