Floyd Mayweather is reportedly willing to give Manny Pacquiao a fight rematch following their boxing match on Saturday night and that could set up another record breaking battle between the fighters and it comes after Pacquiao said he was dealing with a serious shoulder injury in the lead up to the fight, which ended with his defeat on a unanimous decision.
According to media reports from ESPN's Darren Rovell, USA Today and NESN, Mayweather is "willing to give Pacquiao a rematch" when he is healthy after recovering from shoulder surgery. Pacquiao could be facing some legal repercussions after he did not disclose the injury prior to the fight, but the camp for the boxer said that they did not want to give Mayweather any advantages.
The shoulder injury would have pushed the fight back if Pacquiao wanted to postpone and with the way things were set up, it wasn't an option. Pacquiao fought injured and Mayweather won a unanimous decision and now that could set up another match between the two. Mayweather feels he won the fight fair and square whether Pacquiao had an injury or not, but he appears ready to go into the ring again, although he said he would retire after his next fight.
The money that could be made for a second fight with Pacquiao likely would keep Mayweather in the ring. Mayweather revealed a check for over $100 million after the fight ended with Pacquiao and he could pocket even more if he puts his undefeated record on the line again. Pacquiao could be out for nine months to a year while coming back from his shoulder surgery and that could put a fight for early next year.
Mayweather is now 49-0 for his career and he could finish things off at 50-0 if he wins again or if he fights once more between this and the rematch. Pacquiao may have some issues following the fight, but there is a good chance the two will get into the ring again. Per Darren Rovell: "Best Floyd-Manny II date is around 4/27/16: 60th anniversary of Marciano retiring at 49-0. Floyd would go for 50-0. New MGM arena opening."
