Arsenal are considering a shock move for Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, according to British tabloid The Sun.
The report states, Arsenal are reportedly keen to take advantage of the financial unrest currently ongoing at Drogba's new club shanghai Shenhua, and has made enquiries about the possibility of bringing in the player in January, or earlier if he is forced to leave the club and is allowed out of his contract.
Drogba left Chelsea at the end of last season after inspiring the Stamford Bridge club to European Champions League success; deciding to take up a lucrative package at Shanghai. The Ivory Coast international, who recently paid a visit to London where his family still resides, is on a salary of £200,000 a week ($322,000) at the Chinese club.
There is absolutely no way Arsenal will pay Drogba that amount of salary, and it is even more unlikely that the Ivorian will agree to move to one of Chelsea's biggest rivals, having previously stated his love for the Blues.
Drogba was also linked with a move to Liverpool, after Brendan Rodgers failed to find a replacement for Andy Carroll. Arsenal could definitely use another striker in their ranks, with Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski, who prefers to play from the left, their two forwards; Marouane Chamakah has fallen out of favor at the Emirates and looks unlikely to get much playing time. However, Arsene Wenger is unlikely to sanction such a deal for a player over 30, even if he is still one of the best strikers.
If the financial turmoil were to unravel and force the striker to make a move away from Shanghai, Drogba would most likely either make a return to Stamford Bridge or probably find a club in, France, Major League Soccer or the Middle East.
There is no doubt that Drogba would make any club better if he joined them, but the likelihood of the burly striker joining Arsenal or indeed Liverpool are extremely slim, to say the absolute least.
Meanwhile, The Sun report also states that Juventus have ramped up their interest in Theo Walcott and will look to move for the forward in the January transfer window.
"Juve have been interested in Walcott for some time but we are coming to the decisive moment," a source told the Sun.
Walcott and Arsenal are still far from agreeing a deal, but as long as both parties want the same thing - which is for the player to remain at the Emirates - the most likely outcome is that Arsenal and Walcott's representatives will come to an agreement. Arsenal, however, will need to sort out the 23-year-old's future as soon as possible, with clubs from Europe able to talk to Walcott in January, if a deal hasn't been agreed by then.
