The Atlanta Falcons are continuing to mull through the free agent market as they prepare for the NFL Draft. Head coach Dan Quinn has made it clear that the team is done handing out contracts before the draft, but growing interest in a few veterans might say otherwise. The Falcons are fully invested in Matt Ryan along with re-signing TJ Yates in free agency, but could Atlanta be eyeing a familiar face to add back into the mix.

The Falcons do not want to entertain the idea of backup quarterbacks simply because Ryan gives them the best chance of winning, but if an injury were to take place the Falcons need strong backup options. ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter is reporting that Matt Schaub could be that player as the Falcons are showing interest in the veteran quarterback.

Schaub is expected to sign with a team this week and the Falcons are interested. Quinn addressed the rumor saying, ""Schaub is certainly somebody that we could [add]. As we get through it, we'll let you know if we go down that road." (via the Atlanta Journal Constitution)

Atlanta fans are certainly familiar with Schaub. He was a third-round draft pick to the Falcons back in 2004, backing up Michael Vick at the time. He was then traded to the Houston Texans in 2007 where he remained their starting quarterback until the Oakland Raiders acquired him. Schaub and Falcons' offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan have a history together which could make this signing a strong one for the Falcons. The quarterback could easily earn a one-year deal considering the last few years have been a struggle for him.

The next priorities for the Falcons remain in Julio Jones getting a new contract and the NFL Draft. Right now the Falcons have yet to begin negotiations with the wide receiver, but ESPN's Vaughn McClure expects a deal to be finalized. Atlanta is making defense a priority in the draft, bringing in pass rushers like Vic Beasley, Randy Gregory and Shane Ray in for private workouts. Most mock drafts have the Falcons selecting a linebacker/defensive end hybrid in the first round to fit the big need of a pass rusher on the defensive line.
