NCAA Tournament Bracket: Kentucky Wildcats In Elite Eight To Face Notre Dame After West Virginia Win

The Kentucky Wildcats dominated the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Sweet 16 on Thursday, defeating the team 78-39 as they advanced into the Elite Eight and now the team is set to face Norte Dame in the Midwest region as they try and make an undefeated run into the Final Four.

Kentucky remains undefeated and they are the favorites to win the tournament and many predicted that the West Virginia matchup would be the toughest for UK of the season. Clearly the Wildcats took that as a challenge and they made a statement with their win on Thursday. The team dominated in all phases of the game and now they are into the Elite Eight.

Kentucky won the SEC and now they will play against the ACC in Notre Dame in the next round and that is the next step for the team before heading into the Final Four. The Wildcats are now 37-0 this season and they had a 25 point lead by the end of the first half and never looked back. The Mountaineers came into the game confident, but they quickly realized what they were dealing with and now Kentucky is into the next stage of March Madness.

Andrew Harrison had 13 points for the Wildcats and Trey Lyles added 14 points and he also had seven rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. West Virginia struggled offensively and the Wildcats defense was strong, holding the team to less than 20 points into the second half of the game. Kentucky remains the favorites in the tournament and they have a tough matchup with Notre Dame, who won their Sweet 16 game against Wichita State.

According to ESPN.com, Kentucky and Notre Dame have not played in the tournament since back in 1970 and now will matchup in the Elite Eight. Notre Dame took down the Shockers by 11 points and the other matchups saw Wisconsin advance over North Carolina, while Arizona pulled out a win over Xavier.
