The defending U.S. Open champion, defeated Croatian Petra Martic in two straight sets to advance to the second round of the tournament. She won in two straight rounds 6-1, 6-1.

Stosur had the match under control, but had an easier time capturing the victory due to Martic's unforced errors. Martic finished the match with 25 unforced errors, which really cost her in the opening stages of the match. 

Stosur completely cruising through the first couple of games in the first set. At one point, she captured 19 consecutive points and held a 3-0 advantage. 

Martic finally won a point when Stosur double-faulted on one of her game-point serve, She then followed with an unforced error, tightening the game at 40-30, but eventually took the game and had a 4-0 lead in the first set.

It only took her eight minutes to build this advantage. About 15 minutes later, she won the set on a booming ace that landed right on the line, which was seen on the board after Martic asked for a review. 

Strosur finished the second set in almost half an hour and simply dominated once again. Here are the complete numbers and stats of the match.
