49ers Free Agency Rumors: Carlos Hyde Starter Over Reggie Bush as Hakeem Nicks, Cecil Shorts Signed After Stevie Johnson Out? Amari Cooper, Kevin White Draft Options

The San Francisco 49ers are trying to build their offense around Colin Kaepernick in order to fight off rumors of a brewing trade of the quarterback. The team has come out several times stating Kaepernick was the short-term and long-term quarterback for the 49ers and they would be focusing on free agent upgrades rather than teams seeking a trade. After getting big names in at the running back and wide receiver position, what is next for San Francisco?

Kaepernick is returning and he will have a new arsenal of weapons to work with on offense. The 49ers parted ways with veteran running back Frank Gore at the start of free agency as he signed a deal with the Indianapolis Colts and have brought in Reggie Bush as his replacement. The 49ers are sold on the potential of second-year running back Carlos Hyde and were simply looking for a complimentary back. Bush appears to be the favored option.

Bush tweeted out, "The best is yet to come #49ers," after agreeing to a contract with San Francisco. Bush is still a very capable running back that should pair well with Hyde, but make no mistake, the veteran is not a starter for the team. Bush battled injuries for most of last year and had just 297 yards on the ground, just one season after putting up 1,0006 yards rushing and 506 yards receiving. The 49ers hope they are getting the healthy Bush from 2013.

With the running back rotation set, the focus now shifts to the wide receiver spot. The 49ers lost Michael Crabtree to free agency while releasing Stevie Johnson. They did sign Torrey Smith to a deal, but could use to add one more player to the roster. The options on the free agent market are slim at this point. The team could look to a veteran like Greg Jennings or Hakeem Nicks, but chances seem greater they might aim for help in the draft. With an aging group currently on the roster, Amari Cooper, Kevin White and DeVante Parker would all be nice upgrades for the 49ers that would give them options for the future.
