EPL Transfer News: Luka Modric Move to Real Madrid 'Almost Done'; Spurs Looking to Sign Leandro Damiao

Luka Modric's move from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid is "almost done", while Spurs are being linked with another move for Brazilian international Leandro Damiao.

The signing of Gaston Ramirez has been ruled out, however, with the player's agent claiming the North London club were far away from the Italian club Bologna's valuation.

The Modric saga has rumbled on all summer, with it being understood a move was imminent last week. However, an official announcement, despite Real Madrid putting up a player profile of the Croatian international on their official website before quickly deleting it, has not been made by either clubs.

While Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was initially holding out for close to £40 million ($63.5 million) for their 26-year-old playmaker, it is believed a fee closer to £30 million ($47.6 million) has been agreed, with only the finishing touches remaining.

Modric's former club, Dinamo Zagreb, has said a move is imminent with Zoran Mamic, the club's sporting director, expecting an official announcement soon. "You read many things in the media but from the information that I have, Luka will move to Real Madrid for sure," Mamic told 24sata.

"I've heard it's almost done, so I don't have any doubts Luka will play for Real Madrid next season.

"It is just a question of when the official announcement will be."

According to widespread reports in the English press, Andre Villas-Boas is looking to spend some of the Modric money on Damiao, who impressed during Brazil's Olympic campaign in London.

Spurs have a good working relationship with the forward's club Internacional, having already bought Sandro a few years back. However, Damiao will cost Spurs quite a bit of money, with Internacional president Giovanni Luigi saying it would take an "extraordinary offer" to consider letting their striker go.

"There isn't any Tottenham representative here, and nothing is scheduled," he told Globo Esporte.

"The ones that have been coming here are agents. Leandro Damiao was top scorer in the Olympics. I have nothing scheduled with Tottenham.

"Internacional want to keep Leandro Damiao. He'll leave only if there is an extraordinary offer."

It is understood, if Spurs agree a deal for Damiao, Jermain Defoe will look to leave the club, with Queens Park Rangers reportedly interested.

Another proposed Spurs target, Ramirez, will not move to Southampton after his agent claimed the transfer had fallen through. The attacker had suggested he was on the verge of sealing a £11.8 million ($18.7 million) move to the newly-promoted club last Friday, but now it seems that he will remain at Bologna, at least for the time being.

"The negotiations with Southampton have ended," Betancourt told calciomercatoweb.it. "I have spoken with the English club's chairman, and they are looking at another target.

"Bologna didn't want to close the deal without the bank guarantees. The player was very happy with the offer received, but now he will probably remain at Bologna.

"Tottenham is an option to be rejected at this time because they are a long way short of Bologna's demands. Liverpool? They have never presented a concrete offer."
