Former Arsenal striker Eduardo criticized the sales of Robin Van Persie and Alex Song, but admitted he would love to come back to the Emirates and play a part in the Gunners' success, while the North London club are being linked with a shock move for Jesus Navas of Sevilla.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, Arsene Wenger is lining up a €15 million (£11.8 million, $18.7 million) bid for the Spanish international winger. With Theo Walcott yet to sign a new contract, Navas is seen by Wenger as a potential replacement.
While Navas is an exciting winger with loads of pace and a directness, which sometimes the Gunners lack, it is extremely unlikely that this move will come off. Walcott is reportedly close to signing a new long-term contract, with Wenger fully backing the England international to achieve his best season with the Gunners.
However, the primary reason that this signing is extremely improbable is because of Navas being prone to homesickness. The 26-year-old finds it difficult to leave his hometown and only travels with the Spanish squad for international tournaments, after special consideration from the coaching staff.
The winger is also extremely loyal to Sevilla and has turned down several moves to play for a bigger club in Spain as well as the rest of Europe, although that is again owing to his chronic homesickness.
It is being reported that new signing Santi Cazorla has recommended the signing to Wenger, but the Arsenal manager has been an admirer of Navas' talents for a while anyways, but has been put off by the player's refusal to leave his hometown.
Meanwhile, former Gunners forward Eduardo believes selling Arsenal's two best players from last season was a "big mistake". Arsenal were forced to let go of Van Persie to Manchester United after the prolific Dutch forward refused to sign a new contract, while Alex Song departed to Barcelona.
"It is a big mistake to sell them, they were the most important players last season," Eduardo told BBC Sport. "But they have other quality players to stay as a big club at the top.
"Van Persie and Song were the key players last season, they held the team. When you lose two players like that, your chance of finishing in the top four is less.
"But Arsenal still have a good team and I'm confident they will do well. Last year when they lost (Samir) Nasri and (Cesc) Fabregas, everyone thought they would not finish in the top four but they did.
"When the season finishes, we'll see if it was a mistake or not. It's very sad to lose two big players like that but we must respect the new players and believe they can keep Arsenal at the top."
Eduardo also bemoaned players leaving the club after becoming finished products at Arsenal. "Every player comes to Arsenal as a simple player and Arsenal make them into a big player, but they can't keep everyone together to fight for titles," the Croatian international said.
"Every year it's similar - they lose players, buy players, make them class players and the next year they sell again. They are always in the same place."
The Brazilian-born striker admitted he would love to come back to Arsenal, if given an opportunity. "It would be nice if they wanted me to join again, but it's not the kind of thing I'm thinking about," he said.
"If I played for Arsenal now I could score some important goals from nothing, in games like Sunderland, when it's 0-0 and you score the only goal. My studying of the game is like that.
"I can give you a lot of important points. I think Arsenal are missing some players like that. You never know. When you've played in the Premier League, you sometimes miss the atmosphere in the stadiums and the playing style.
"I miss this and hope one day I will come back."
