The Boston Red Sox and NY Yankees are playing live on the MLB Spring Training schedule in the Grapefruit League and the matchup is streaming online from MLB.com on MLB.TV and has New York hosting at George M. Steinbrenner Field at 1:05 pm ET as the division rivals battle and it comes after Alex Rodriguez made his debut last week.
The Yankees come into the game after a loss against the Orioles and they will next play against the Atlanta Braves. The team did not make the playoffs for the second straight season and there is immense pressure all around. The rotation has CC Sabathia and Masahiro Tanaka coming back, but the main question is whether they can stay healthy for a full season.
The Yankees have some young players coming in and they hope that some of those names can step up and maybe make an impact in the bigs. The team just added Hideki Matsui as a special assistant to the GM and they now face the Red Sox, the team that made the biggest splash in free agency in the AL East. The Red Sox added Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez as well as a number of other players and they also traded for Rick Porcello.
Last season the Yankees were not a consistent team on offense and the pitching broke down a bit at the end. The team now is looking to bounce back and they have added Didi Gregorius to take over for Derek Jeter. The team brought back chase Headley to play third and that means A-rod likely will play the DH the most and could be used as a backup at first base. The team ranked 20th in runs scored and batting average last season in the MLB ranks.
The Red Sox come into the game after winning over the Rays and they will next play against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The team has the chance to go from being one of the worst in the AL to a contender this season and it comes after they spent a ton of money in the offseason. The Red Sox could be called the new Yankees and they also have reportedly been interested in a deal for Cole Hamels this season.
