Outside of DeMarco Murray, CJ Spiller is considered the best available running back on the market. Several players from Shane Vereen, to Roy Helu have been signed leaving Spiller to gain plenty of interest on the open market. Not interested in a return to the Buffalo Bills after they traded for LeSean McCoy, could Spiller be headed to New England instead?

According to the Boston Herald, the Patriots have interest in Spiller. It does not appear to be completely serious, but they are tossing around his name as a potential addition. However, the question is whether or not Spiller fits in New England. The team has LeGarrette Blount returning who is expected to get the brunt of the rushing work. He is a down-field, aggressive back that fits perfectly into Bill Belichick's offensive plan. That would leave Spiller fighting for carries, something he has no interest in doing. There is also the factor that Spiller will cost more money than the Patriots are willing to pay.

Spiller must take his time in free agency and wait for DeMarco Murray to sign. There are several teams in the league ready to take him away from Dallas and whoever misses out will turn to Spiller. The former Bills back has expressed interest in signing with the Philadelphia Eagles after they lost McCoy, but so far the Eagles are only looking at Murray. The same can be said for the Oakland Raiders who are eyeing the Dallas star.

If Murray goes elsewhere, Spiller can expect to get a call from the Dallas Cowboys almost immediately. The Cowboys believe that almost any running back can excel in their offense with the line they have. However, all of the second-tier players are almost gone meaning they must turn to Spiller. The Buffalo rusher will not command as much money as Murray is which works for Dallas considering they have several other contracts to worry about. Spiller would be a solid fit in the offense and likely excel behind the strong offensive line that they did not have in Buffalo.

Spiller told the media that he does intend to be patient in free agency which is a good thing because teams are forcing him to do so. However, once Murray is off the market, Spiller will have everyone's attention.
