Philadelphia Eagles News: Michael Vick Injured in First Quarter Against New England Patriots

Aug 20, 2012 08:58 PM EDT

9:20 p.m. X-rays negative on Michael Vicks' ribs. Will not return to the game.

------------UPDATE-------------

Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback, Michael Vick was injured in the first quarter of Monday NIght Football's matchup against the New England Patriots. Vick who has a long history of injuries, was taken out of the game and Nick Foles came in to replace the injured quarterback.

The play came in Vick's second drive of the game. He held the ball despite the pocket collapsing on him and went for a deep pass down the field to wide receiver Desean Jackson.

Patriot defensive lineman Jermaine Cunningham, who is in his third year, stuffed Vick to the ground and dug his helmet into Vick's mid-section. Vick was slow to get up. Then he fell down on one knee.

After trainers took a look at Vick, he was taken to the locker room for x-rays.  They were looking at his ribs.

This is possibly the worst news Eagles fans could hear.

Vick has always been known for being tough, but his toughness has not allowed him to play complete seasons of football. He runs when he sees the openings and defenders try to bulldoze him. As a passer, because he has a booming arm, Vick holds on to the ball. He does not give up on the plays.

This time, similar to all the other times, Vick got injured.

It would be a huge loss for the Eagles if he does not come back, but Nick Foles looks capable of running the offense so far.

We will update you on Vick's injury as the game proceeds. The score is currently 11-0 in favor of the New England Patriots.
