The Minnesota Vikings were not planning on looking at running backs in free agency because they were confident Adrian Peterson would be reinstated and return to the team as planned for the 2015 season. However, that might not be as guaranteed as head coach Mike Zimmer thought it was. According to Peterson's agent, the running back has no plans on playing again in Minnesota which could leave the Vikings to make some rushed decisions.

According to CBSSports.com, Peterson's agent, Ben Dogra, told the Vikings that the running back will not be returning to the team which led to a heated confrontation between he and Vikings vice president Rob Brzezinski and the two reportedly had to be separated. The Vikings would not comment on the situation, but ESPN.com reports that Peterson I planning on heading elsewhere regardless of the positive front he puts on in the media.

The running back has hinted that a change might be the best thing for him. As a $12.75 salary hit Peterson's future was never guaranteed and he recognizes that going elsewhere could give him a fresh start after the suspension.

"It's hard to say [what my future will be]," Peterson said, via ESPN.com. "I love Minnesota. There are people that have had my back, and supported me. Last year, with the things that took place, had a lot of fans that supported me through everything. For the fans, I would definitely love to come back, but then again, it's a business, when it comes down to business, you can't get caught up in the loyalty to fans or to a team or anything like that."

The Vikings will likely be forced to consider their options at the position heading into 2015. Last season's leading rusher Matt Asiata is set to be a free agent. He put up 570 yards with nine touchdowns in a solid season as a starter. He would likely be a cheap re-sign for the team in free agency. However, the Vikings might favor Jerick McKinnon who impressed in limited time last season putting up 538 rushing yards. Regardless, the Vikings must add someone. Losing Peterson means they will have money to spend and could target anyone from CJ Spiller to veteran Frank Gore or even DeMarco Murray if the Dallas Cowboys pass on him. While Peterson could return, all signs point to his departure which will force Minnesota to make a move for his replacement.
