West Ham United and Manchester United are playing on the English Premier League schedule on Sunday and the matchup from Upton Park is on the NBC Sports Network and streaming online from the NBCSN Live Extra website as Man Utd tries to keep things going in EPL play and they are fourth in the league standings.
Man United comes in after a win against Cambridge at Old Trafford in the FA Cup and that was a fourth round tie. Manchester has been playing well and right now they have a slight lead in fourth in the EPL standings and moving forward they have a manageable schedule for the next few games. Louis Van Gaal has his team playing well and Wayne Rooney is coming in looking to get things going.
Man United will play against Burnley after the game against West Ham and they will play Preston in the FA Cup Fifth Round. Man United will be away at Swansea City after that and then they will matchup with Sunderland and Newcastle before playing Tottenham. The team then travels to Anfield to play Liverpool after that and they will host Aston Villa to start things off in April on the EPL schedule.
West Ham defenders James Collins and Winston Reid will be out and that leaves a hole in the center of things, while Man United will be without Michael Carrick. Last season Man Utd had a tough year and now they are looking to get back into things and to get into the Champions League after missing out last year. Ashley Young could be back after dealing with a hamstring issue and the team is coming in having won nine of the last 13 games and they have still been tinkering with things and could be turning into top form as the schedule heads towards March. Man United has not lost in the last 12 matches in league play with West Ham and they have won 11 times in that span, giving them the advantage.
The Hammers have been playing much better than last year and they are eighth on the league table and they come in 17 points ahead of where they were last year. The last win for the team against Man U was back in 2007 and they come in having scored the most headers this year. The Red Devils come in undefeated in their last six matches and they have three wins in that time. Rooney comes in with 10 goals in the last nine games against West Ham, while Robin Van Persie has also played well against the team.
