NFL Playoff Standings and Draft Order For 2014 Season

Dec 09, 2014 08:30 AM EST

The NFL playoffs standings are starting to take shape and that means the draft order for 2015 will get set in a matter of weeks, with the New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos looking like the best teams, while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Oakland Raiders and New York Jets are the targets to get Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston.

The NFC playoff race is getting very close in some spots, with the Cardinals and Packers coming out of this week with 10 wins, while the Eagles are first in the NFC East. The Cowboys and Eagles play next week and that will decide who is leading the division, while the Atlanta Falcons are in first in the south after the loss to the Packers. The Seahawks and Lions are in fifth and sixth place as wild cards, but they both remain alive in their divisional races.

The Cowboys are the first team out and they lead the 49ers in the standings and another loss for San Francisco will likely eliminate them from postseason contention. The head to head matchup with the Eagles and Cowboys should decide the East, while the Packers and Cards have the advantage in the north and west, but both have matchups left against the teams behind them.

The AFC playoff race is simply nuts, as there are a number of teams right outside contention at 7-6, while the ravens are 8-6 and are the first team out right now. The San Diego Chargers and Steelers are currently in at 8-5 and with three games left those teams also have the chance to catch the Bengals in the North division. The New England Patriots are first place in the east and the top seed, while the Broncos are two and both teams have 10 wins.
The Broncos are in over the Colts in the south, as Indy has nine wins on the season and they are close to locking up the division. The Bengals are leading the north and that is still up in the air heading into the final three games.

The bottom teams in the standings this season include the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Oakland Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars in the first three draft spots, all at 2-11. The Titans are next on the list ahead of the Jets and both teams are 2-11 as well and they play head to head this weekend, meaning one will move down. The Redskins, Giants and Panthers are also in the bottom part of the standings and the final three weeks will decide who will get the chance to draft Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston
