Washington Redskins Rumors: RG3 Trade Coming As Jay Gruden Wants Robert Griffin III Gone? Raiders, Buccaneers, Texans Options After Post Report

The Washington Redskins and head coach Jay Gruden could be done with RG3 after this season, as Gruden has not been satisfied with how Robert Griffin III has played and sources have said to the Washington Post that the coach wants Griffin gone and if a trade happens, teams like the Oakland Raiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans could be interested.

Griffin was benched by Gruden for Colt McCoy last week and now Jason Reid from the Washington Post writes that the head coach is looking to move on from Griffin. According to the column, unnamed sources in the organization have said that Gruden"feels strongly" that the team needs to make a permanent change at the position from Griffin. Gruden made the move to Colt McCoy from Griffin because he felt it was the "right thing" for the season and for the long term.

Griffin has proven to be a project quarterback and Gruden's offense needs a more classic drop back or at least pocket passer and that is not what RG3 excels at. Griffin had an amazing rookie season and made the playoffs before winning rookie of the year and after he was injured in the postseason, things have not been the same. Griffin ended up getting injured again the next season and he was injured this year before coming back and not being effective.

Griffin could be an option for a number of teams and the Redskins will have to decide what to do when it comes to the point when they have to pick up or decline his option. The salary number will be high and if Griffin is not a starter that will be tough to justify and that could lead to a move. Teams like the Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Titans, Philadelphia Eagles, Buccaneers and Texans all could be in the market for a quarterback this offseason and Griffin could be a target.

The Redskins may hold off on getting rid of Griffin because of all they gave up for him to the Rams, but if they believe in Gruden and think he is correct, they should follow that path. Sometimes things simply don't work out and a confluence of things put Griffin in the position where he is now. The Redskins have proven to be a dysfunctional organization over the years; Griffin has proven to be a bit of a diva in a way, not in the classical sense, but his "All in For Week 1" last year was all about him and not about the team.
