The Battle of New York will get another chapter on Tuesday as the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets will take their struggling offenses to Madison Square Garden for their second faceoff of the season. The Knicks come into the game having lost four straight games, including 13 in the month of November. The Brooklyn Nets are just 6-9 and looking equally unimpressive. In need of a turnaround, someone will need to start shooting better in order to win.
The Knicks have made 5 of their 43 three-point shots over the past two games. They are currently shooting 35.2 percent overall in their past two games, both losses to the Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat. The return of Carmelo Anthony from back spasms could not even help the Knicks as he scored 31 points in the loss to the Heat. The team shot 3 for 24 from beyond the arc in that game which dropped their 3-point percentage to 33.1.
Carmelo Anthony recently admitted that he is frustrated regarding the struggles of the Knicks. The triangle offense is currently getting the best of the team as a number of players are having issues picking up the techniques from head coach Derek Fisher. Anthony has no interest in another losing season, but so far it seems that way.
Brooklyn does not look much better. The Nets are currently owners of a 29.3 shooting percentage from beyond the arc on the road. That is the third-worst in the NBA right now, something head coach Lionel Hollins is not happy about. The team is coming off a home loss to the Chicago Bulls where Joe Johnson went a disappointing 1 of 7 from 3-point range. As a team the Nets went 2 of 14 from long range. Hollins has been critical of the Nets in recent weeks as shooting has been an issue.
Both Hollins and Fisher are having struggling starts to their debut seasons with their respective teams. As the Nets and Knicks sit near the bottom of the NBA rankings, a win on Tuesday could help turn things around.
