It is crazy that so many teams are interested in the short stop/ third baseman after all these years of sports people criticizing Hanley Ramirez for his attitude and way of playing. Earlier today the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants seemed like viable landing spots, now, the Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays have added their names to the mix.
Ramirez must be blasting Adele's "Rumor Has It." The Red Sox seemed interested in making a deal last week and now these teams are possible destinations for the 28-year-old veteran.
The Toronto Blue Jays would deal Yunel Escobar to make space for Ramirez. The Blue Jays possess a pretty good batting lineup, adding Ramirez would give it depth and another bat to place in front of slugger Jose Bautista.
Escobar is hitting .255 with six home runs and 34 RBI. The Cuban-native could be comfortable in Miami.
As for the Orioles, they are seeing their playoff hopes slip right before their eyes. They owned first place for a good portion of the beginning of the season. The New York Yankees began playing like the Yankees and the Orioles played they way they have been expected to play.
They are currently in second place, seven games behind the Yanks. With a left side of the infield that has done little to provide offense, the Orioles could send Wilson Betemit over to the Marlins and another part to the Marlins.
Betemit is owed around $4 million in the next two seasons and that's including a $3.2 mlion vesting option in 2014.
He came up with the Atlanta Braves so he might remember a bit about the National League East.
It has been rumored that the Dodgers are Ryan Dempster's team of choice. They were unable to land the righty in discussions last week, so it seems like they do not have a package worth trading for.
They were interested when Kevin Youkilis was in the market. Juan Uribe has struggled and an Adam Kennedy way past his prime is getting action at third base.
Adding Ramirez to a lineup with Andre Ethier and a healthy Matt Kemp could help the Dodgers get the offense they need to take over the National League West.
All these teams are the the ones publicly interested in Ramirez, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports believes other teams might be in the hunt.
Ramirez will be back in the Marlins' lineup after missing the last four games. For all we know these next couple of games could be his last in Miami.
