Philadelphia Eagles Rumors: Mark Sanchez Fantasy Start Option After Nick Foles Injured As Quarterback Sleeper Week 10

Nov 03, 2014 09:52 AM EST

The Philadelphia Eagles have lost quarterback Nick Foles to an injury and that has put Mark Sanchez under center and now he could be starting in Week 10 after Foles was injured in the Week 9 game against the Houston Texans and while that is tough for fantasy football owners, Sanchez could end up being a sleeper pickup in the Chip Kelly offense, especially with Tom Brady and Andrew Luck coming into bye weeks.

According to Pro Football Talk, Foles broke his collarbone after taking a hit against the Texans and now he could be out for a bit and that would put Sanchez in the starting role for the Eagles. The injury was first called a shoulder injury and after the game the team found it was a broken collarbone and now more testing will be done with an MRI to see the severity of the damage with the injury. Sanchez would take over as the starter and that would make Matt Barkley the backup after he served as the third string quarterback on Sunday.

The Eagles have been one of the best teams in the NFC and now they are neck and neck with the Dallas Cowboys after they won on Sunday. The Cowboys lost to the Arizona Cardinals and the Eagles won and now they may have to use Sanchez for a bit as Foles deals with an injury. The Giants are the only team in the NFC East this season to use their starter in every game, as the Redskins have used Colt McCoy and Kirk Cousins along with RG3, while the Cowboys used Brandon Weeden with Tony Romo out of the lineup with an injury Sunday.

Sanchez looked good in the preseason and the injury issue was one reason why Chip Kelly did not want to trade Sanchez at that time despite his strong play. Kelly realized that an injury could derail the season for the Eagles and now they have a serviceable quarterback that can come in and can handle the offense from Kelly. Sanchez came in for Foles and went 15-of-22 for 202 yards in the game and had two touchdowns and two picks in the win for the Eagles over the Texans.

The Eagles have an extra day to rest and asses Foles because they have the Monday night game next week and that will be against the Carolina Panthers. The team is hosting that game and while Foles could miss time, there is a chance he could come back quickly if the injury damage is not serious. Last season Aaron Rodgers had a similar injury and missed half the season and that could mean Sanchez will be the starter for multiple weeks and perhaps the rest of the year.

Foles was not having as good of a season as last year, but he had been playing well for the Eagles, putting up over 2100 yard already in eight games. Foles has passed for 2163 yards this season with 13 touchdowns, but he has 10 interceptions and was only completing 59 percent of his passes. Last season Foles had 27 TDs and just two interceptions and was up over 60 percent in completion percentage.
