The MLB playoffs standings has the World Series tied 3-3 with the Royals winning Game 6 in Kansas City and now the San Francisco Giants face a Game 7 matchup and this is a one for everything game and has Tim Hudson starting against Jeremy Guthrie after Jake Peavy couldn't get it done and this will be massive for baseball after the ratings have been so-so for the World Series thus far.
The Giants had the inning from hell in the second inning in Game 6 and they allowed seven runs in that inning and that was more than enough for the Royals, who won the game 10-0. The team now faces a tough situation, as they have Game 7 on the road and while they were up 3-2, the majority of the last 10 teams that came into the final two home games down 3-2 have won the championship and the Giants must battle that now.
Peavy was in trouble early in the game and was able to get out of it, but once the second inning rolled along, that was when things broke down. The Royals just poured on runs and they made some great plays, including Alcides Escobar making it to first place on a play where Brandon Belt was caught deciding to throw to first or home plate. That opened things up and the team got hit after hit with Alex Gordon putting some things together and that took Peavy out of the game. The team ended up scoring seven runs, the last coming on a Billy Butler double that scored Eric Hosmer before the Giants finally got out of it.
The game on Wednesday night has Jeremy Guthrie and Tim Hudson starting and they likely will be on short leashes in Game 7 for Ned Yost and Bruce Bochy. Yordano Ventura was great as a rookie and he made it count in Game 7 and now things come down to one game and this will be a rematch of the Game 3 matchup in SF, which was won by Kansas City. The Giants have shown that they can win here, but the Royals remain confident and that could be what pushes them over San Fran in this game for the series.
The home field advantage now comes into big play with Game 7 and coming into this matchup, teams with that advantage have won all but five of the last 28 championships. That team has won five in a row and now the series is playing out the way the other all-wild-card matchups have gone, including when the Giants were in the series in 2002. The home team has won nine straight game 7 matchups and the Giants will try and fight that history and they have shown in the past that they can win in Game 7. The team was down 3-1 to the Cardinals two years ago in the NLCS and won that series and now they will try and get it done here on Wednesday.
