The Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings are playing live on the NHL schedule on Thursday night and the game from Joe Louis Arena starts up at 7:30 pm ET as the two east rivals play and this game has both teams starting the season well as Sidney Crosby and company take on Jimmy Howard in Hockeytown and coverage is online from NHL.com.

The Penguins come in after a loss to the Flyers and that was a 5-3 game and now the team has the Red Wings before a matchup with the Predators. The team is already first in scoring and power play percentage this season and that is a good way to start. The Pens have six points on the season with three wins and the Red Wings have a 3-1-2 record with eight points.

Crosby already leads the team in goals and points and the team is currently fifth in the Metro division and looking to move up. The Red Wings come into the game after a tough loss to the Canadiens in overtime and the team now is looking to bounce back. The Wings next have the Flyers and they come in playing great in net, as they are ranked third in goals against. The team is also ranked first in penalty kill percentage and they have not yet allowed a goal.

The Penguins opened the season with three wins in four games after beating the Ducks to start and now they have the Red Wings and Preds on the road before games at home against the Devils, Kings and Sabres. The team next plays after that on a massive road trip and that goes for five games, including the Rangers and Maple Leafs. After that the team returns home to play the Rangers and then has the Canadiens.

The Penguins want some revenge against the Rangers, as they won over them in the playoffs. The Rangers came back from a 3-1 deficit to take down the Penguins and that was a massive come back that helped the team make it to the Stanley Cup finals.
