The Ottawa shootings in Canada have a city on edge and the NHL postponed the game between the Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night, as the police are still investigating the coordinated attacks that took place in Parliament Hill, War Memorial and downtown and reports have said that Maple Leafs players could hear gunshots from their hotel rooms.
The shootings started on Wednesday morning from the War Memorial on Parliament Hill where a soldier was shot and there were also two more shooting sites in the city, according to ESPN.com and other news reports. The Maple Leafs were put on lockdown in their hotel and were told to stay away from the windows until the situation was handled.
The team is staying in downtown Ottawa and that is where some of the incidents occurred. The teams will not play the game that was scheduled for Wednesday night at 7 pm ET and the NHL will announce a makeup at a later date. The Maple Leafs come into the game after a win against the Islanders and they have seven points on the season and they are sixth in the Atlantic division.
The team has a 3-3-1 record this year and after playing the Senators the team is heading to Boston to play the Bruins. The teams faced off a couple years ago and in Game 7 of that playoff series, the Bruins came back from multiple goals down in the third period to get the win. The Senators come into the game after a win against the Blue Jackets and now the Canadian showdown is going to be put off due to the shootings.
Ottawa is third in the Atlantic division and they have gotten off to a very strong start at 4-1 on the season. The team has eight points and they next will matchup with the New Jersey Devils and right now the downtown area of the city is on lockdown. The teams will make up the game at a later date. The Senators come in at ninth in the league in goal tending by goals allowed per game and that is one reason they have been off to a great start.
