The Minnesota Vikings may look at an Adrian Peterson trade when he resolves his legal issues and the Dallas Cowboys could be an option after Jerry Jones showed interest in AP over the summer, but with DeMarco Murray having an amazing fantasy football season and MVP campaign, the Cowboys may not look at getting Peterson on the roster in the near future.

Peterson is currently on the exempt list while he deals with legal issues in Texas regarding his son and the Cowboys are in the middle of one of the best starts for the team in years. According to ESPN.com, the Cowboys could be an option for the Vikings, as sources have said that Minnesota is ready to move on from Peterson and that could happen in a trade or with his release. ESPN.com reporter Chris Mortenson also said on TV that Peterson could be facing a suspension even if he is found not guilty in his legal issues and that is something the Vikings will also consider.

Peterson is one of the best players in all of football and he now is on the sidelines as the process plays out. Before the season started there was a lengthy profile of Jerry Jones on ESPN and in that report it showed a moment between Jones and Peterson, which is why the Cowboys interest has come up in rumors. That was all before the child abuse issues and the play of DeMarco Murray could push that aside anyway, but the team later could be an option for Peterson, as he is from Texas and Jones expressed his interest in that potentially in the future.

The Vikings were mentioned in trade rumors with Peterson last season as the team was struggling and Mike Freeman also added to that around the NFL draft. Freeman wrote (before all the legal issued) that the Vikings and Peterson could be headed for a split in the future through a trade or with Peterson getting released. Freeman wrote that with Peterson getting to 30, which is when running backs usually break down, the team could not afford paying one player that much money in a position that is becoming less valuable in the NFL. Obviously Matt Asiata and Jerick McKinnon are not on the level of Peterson, but they have played well with him out and cost a fraction of the price.

Peterson is on a mega extension and he still has years left after this and Freeman speculates that within the next year or so, the Vikings and Peterson will be split.
