Kirk Cousins wants to know his future. The quarterback has not been shy about his intentions about being a starting quarterback in the NFL and right now he is living out that dream, but happens in a few weeks when Robert Griffin III returns for an ankle injury? Cousins is trying not to speculate, focusing on getting the Redskins their first win under his name, but he is denying that next season he is ready to be a full-time starting quarterback in the NFL.
Cousins has looked impressive in two losses and disastrous in another. He looked good in the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He threw four interceptions in the loss to the New York Giants. He put up 283 yards and two touchdowns in the loss to the Seattle Seahawks. It is hard to get a good read on Cousins' talent level considering how drastic each week has been, but his confidence level in being a full-time starter has not faltered and the uncertainty of the remainder of the season has him on edge.
"I am the kind of guy who would like to know my future and like to know how things are going to play out," said Cousins, via ESPN.com. "So I try not to ride the roller coaster. I try to be as consistent as I can possibly be, and I think that approach is going to help me have success in this league. But as a quarterback, you are going to have things that go your way [and] you're going to have times where it is going to be tough. I think guys that last are the guys who can ride it out and stay consistent no matter what."
Cousins has seven starts to his name in his young NFL career after getting drafted back in 2012. The quarterback admits that he has been reviewing his performances with absolute honesty over the past few weeks and notes that he simply needs to move on from the bad games and focus on the positives. If Cousins can get a few wins under his belt, he stands a chance at remaining the starting quarterback and then heading to a new team come next season.
"You have to be brutally honest with yourself," Cousins said. "You have to say to the coaches, 'Let's make sure this never happens again. However you have to coach me, be hard on me to make sure that it gets through.'"
The Washington Post poses a headache question for Redskins fans about what move is made if both Griffin and Cousins are still struggling when the season is over. With this year's draft being very quarterback heavy, is there a chance the Redskins make a move or two to get one?
