Edwin Encarnacion and the Toronto Blue Jays have come to terms on a 3-year $29 million deal Thursday morning as reported by Ken Rosenthal.
Encarnacion has a home for three years and a possible fourth as the club gave him a $10 million club option for 2016.
The signing is fitting, especially after the season Encarnacion has put together from the designator hitter spot in the lineup.
He is on pace to hit career highs in home runs and runs batted in. So far in 2012, Encarnacion has 23 homers and 58 RBI with a .295 batting average in 83 games played in 2012.
His former home run high was 26 with the Cincinnati Reds in 2008. His high in RBI is 76 back in 2007 also as a Red.
The 29-year-old from the Dominican Republic has finally put it together and become the player many thought he would be when he first came into the majors in 2005.
If Encarnacion is able to produce this way consistently, the Blue Jays will have a great middle of the lineup.
Jose Bautista is still smacking home runs and is tied for first place with Josh Hamilton as both sluggers have hit 27 bombs.
Brett Lawrie is one of the rising stars in the majors. He is only 22-years-old and is a pure hitter. He has a .291 average with 8 homers and 33 RBI in 81 games so far.
Encarnacion was being announced as trade bait, but the Blue Jays saw him as a valuable piece and decided to keep him.
The Blue Jays are currently in last place and 9.5 behind the New York Yankees.
