The New England Patriots' wide receiving group last year failed to make a real impact. After losing top names like Wes Welker and Aaron Hernandez along with Rob Gronkowski to injury, the only player that produced in their absence was Julian Edelman. The team attempted to fix that this past offseason by adding Brandon LaFell and Tim Wright. However, with the slow start to the 2014 season, Tom Brady says it simply was not enough.

A lot has been made over the past two weeks regarding the Patriots' offense. The team lost to the Miami Dolphins. They failed to blowout the weaker Oakland Raiders before losing badly on the road to the Kansas City Chiefs. Brady has looked off more times than not, but claims it is because a lack of talent right now on the roster.

"That's obviously going to reflect in every statistic that you can find, that we don't have the kind of offense that's going to perform at a high level," Brady said, via WEEI 93.7 FM. "Everyone's connected. It all ties together. If we're not playing well, we're not going to have good stats. There is no magic play, there's no magic scheme. It is us as players playing better -- a lot better than we're playing."

Right now, the Patriots offense ranks 23rdi n the league in total yardage. However, the struggles are a team issue including Brady. The quarterback went 14-for-23 in passing for 159 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions including one that was returned for a touchdown. Brady is not the only problem. The offensive line is struggling to hold. The ground game with Stevan Ridley is getting nothing and the only wide receiver looking like a constant threat is Edelman.

According to Brady, he is doing the best with what he has to work with. The issue is that backup Jimmy Garoppolo did more. The rookie stepped in at quarterback in the fourth quarterback went 6-for-7 for 70 yards and a touchdown. Clearly unhappy with the benching, Brady said he was simply doing what he was told to do.

"I was happy for Jimmy," Brady said. "I was happy for our team. We kept fighting at the end. That's a good thing. The more good players we have, the better we will be as a team. So, I didn't pay attention to any of those things. I was obviously disappointed that the outcome of the game was what it was. It's been very frustrating all season the way that we have performed offensively. But we are trying to figure it out to become a better offense."
