The Miami Dolphins are trying to focus on playing to Oakland Raiders in London this upcoming Sunday, but instead they are dealing with quarterback drama. Ryan Tannehill has not played well through three games this season and head coach Joe Philbin made headlines after he hinted a potential change under center for the Dolphins in Week 4. Tannehill was clearly unhappy with his coach's endorsements and did not shy away from speaking out. Will all this drama be cause for the quarterback's release or trade in the offseason?
Tannehill's future was in doubt before the season even began. The other quarterbacks drafted in his class have all tasted the postseason while the Miami Dolphins continue to earn a top 10 draft pick each year. Miami keeps waiting for the quarterback to make the jump into elite status, but so far he has yet to even show signs of the potential to do so. A slow start to 2014 has only heightened those rumors, causing drama between Tannehill and Philbin.
"It creates a bunch of stir and a bunch of distraction in the locker room, mostly from the outside coming in and guys having to deal with the distraction of it," Tannehill said, via the Miami Herald. "It's not a good feeling. Does it feel good to deal with all the distractions that have been created because of the situation? No. That's life. You face distractions. You face adversity in life. You have to fight through it and become a better man, a better player because of it."
According to Tannehill, he and Philbin has sorted out the drama, but if the quarterback does not improve this season, a bigger move could be made in the near future. The 2015 draft class has plenty of talent at the position and the Dolphins could very easily make a move if need be. The Miami Herald reports that right now, all of the Dolphins' players support Tannehill at quarterback and stress that they need to do more to help out.
Wide receiver Brian Hartline told reporters that the receiving corps is underperforming right now. The Dolphins have the highest paid receiving group in the league as everyone is making $7 million or more, but the stats certainly do not reflect the pay check. Mike Wallace leads the group with 211 yards while Hartline has just 87 yards. Brandon Gibson is bringing 39 yards as rookie Jarvis Landry has 73 yards on his NFL resume. If Tannehill is going to be at all successful, those numbers must increase or everyone could be on the chopping block this offseason.
